Child best off with birth mom

Deseret News (Salt Lake City),  Jul 9, 2008

Regarding Linda A. Eldridge's letter (Readers' Forum, July 6) about the teenage pregnancy, no mother, single and/or unwed, has any obligation to give her child up for adoption. If the mother feels she can raise the child, the child is better off with her mother and an old pair of shoes than with complete strangers and a new pair of shoes.

No child born is entitled to a "full" life. Some are born into broken homes, others born with crippled bodies. Regardless of the shape and size of life's stumbling blocks -- and where they come within life's timeline -- they're inevitable. By relocating a child to a new set of "traditional" parents, you're only reshaping, resizing and relocating these stumbling blocks.
