FOOTBALL: The No. 4 Badgers opened their season with a 56-17 victory over the Air Force Prep Academy this weekend in Colorado Springs.
The Badgers started the scoring early, taking a 28-3 lead into halftime and sailing to the victory. With starting quarterback Jon Eastman sidelined with an injury, replacement Quinn Mecham led the potent Badger offense, including connecting on two touchdowns. Running back Tyson Church scored three times and ran for 87 yards in the victory.

FOOTBALL: Punter Trevor Ward had a record-breaking day as a punter in Southern Utah's 41-7 loss to Air Force on Saturday. Ward averaged 53.6 yards on eight kicks, had two downed inside the 20- yard line and bombed a school-record 91 yard punt for the Thunderbirds as he was named the Great West Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
