Republican Convention: The cable networks -- CNN, C-SPAN, FNC, MSNBC -- will provide coverage pretty much all day long. In primetime, Sen. John McCain will accept the presidential nomination. PBS (Ch. 7) will be on from 7-10 p.m.; ABC (Ch. 4), CBS (Ch. 2) and NBC (Ch. 5) all plan an hour at 8 p.m.

NFL football (5 p.m., Ch. 5): The NFL season kicks off with the Giants hosting the Redskins.

Prep football (5:30 p.m., Ch. 14): Davis vs. Kamehameha (Hawaii)

College football (6:30 p.m., ESPN): Vanderbilt at South Carolina

Kitchen Nightmares (7 p.m., Ch. 13): This two-hour season premiere isn't really new -- it's a recap of the kitchens Gordon Ramsay visited last season.
