Hal R. Jensen

1922 ~ 2009

Hal R. Jensen, 86, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, quietly in his home in Sandy, UT. He was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Latuda, UT to Odessa Chloe Petersen and Ralph Edgar Jensen.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

His parents were from Castle Dale, UT and he enjoyed many summers with the John Y. Jensen family and his cousins - going to Joe's Valley, sheep camp, herding cows, tromping hay, homemade ice cream, dried corn at special meals, mosquito wrigglers in rain barrels, and fishing. As a youth he raced bicycles. During one race, while he was riding a wooden-framed bike, he hit something in the road and crashed, fracturing his front teeth.

During World War II, he served in the Navy as an Aviation Radio Technician - but was never on a ship. Hal worked in the long lines department of AT&T from Dec. 2, 1940 - Aug. 1980. During his career he lived all around the country.

He married Penny Jensen on Aug. 23, 1986, in the Oakland, California LDS Temple.

Hal was a life-long member of the Boy Scouts of America and was a Silver Beaver recipient. He could work on his own cars - a skill he learned from his father. Hal enjoyed camping, fishing, and working with youth. He loved his family and enjoyed doing things with all of them. Hal will be remembered as a great husband, father and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Penny Jensen of Sandy, UT; children, Glen Jensen of Forest Grove, OR; Cathern Fowler, Mountain View, CA; Ron Jensen, Modesto, CA; Debbie Whitney, Fort Meyers, FL; Sandy Jones of Sandy, UT; Charles MacGregor of Las Cruces, NM; brother, Jay Jensen of Kaysville, UT; sister, Peggy Clegg of Sarasota, FL; nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, three nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Srepta Jensen.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy. Graveside services will be held on Monday, Feb. 23, at 12 noon at Alta Mesa Cemetery, Palo Alto, CA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of America (www.scouting.org).
