Author advises grads on 'How to Wow'

A: If you're looking for your first job, no detail is too small, whether that is re-recording your voice-mail greeting -- because that's going to be the first contact a potential interviewer might have with you -- or whether that's your thank-you note you write after an interview. I want it to arrive within 24 hours. I want it to reference something that you spoke about in the interview. If you can include a link to something that you mentioned that you thought they might be interested in, that makes you stand out.

Once you have the job, you need to have the appropriate attitude. There's no job that you could be asked to do that is beneath you. Get over it. If there's a volunteer sign-up going around, then put your name on the list. Whatever it might be, you need to get involved. It is your new community.
