Merril V Hoffmann

1922 ~ 2009

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Merril V Hoffmann, 86, of Randolph, Utah passed away June 22, 2009 after a short but courageous fight with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). He died peacefully in Syracuse at the home of his daughter with his wife and family around him.

He was born on September 19, 1922 in Lyman, Wyoming to Raymond and Lillian Hoffmann. He graduated from South Rich High School, served his country in World War II in the Army Air Corps, and completed schooling at Utah State University receiving degrees in mechanical engineering before returning to his beloved home town of Randolph, Utah to reside. He married Rose Kennard, May 28th 1953 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.

They settled in Randolph where, through hard work, he established a successful business.

With his wife he raised a family including seven children: Marilyn Rose Parkes (Dale); Rhett Grant (Rick) Palm Harbor, FL; Annette Eddy (David) Syracuse, UT; Jeanie Adkins (Lorin), Soda Springs, ID; David M. Hoffmann (Carol), Clinton, UT; Laura Hoffmann, Valdosta, GA; Elizabeth Moldenhauer (Scot), Ogden, UT.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints and served in various callings.

He was one of the most brilliant and talented men we know. He was in constant motion and accomplished the work of three life times in one. He dedicated his life to the service of others, his family and his wife.

He consistently placed others needs above his own, sacrificing many of the luxuries of life to ensure his family would be cared for and community needs were met. He loved a challenge and all things broken because it meant he had something to figure out and fix!! His sense of humor remained with him until the end and sustained us all through the difficulty of his illness. He will be missed dearly by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Lillian Hoffmann, his brother Elden Hoffmann, his sister Angie Tucker, and his daughter Marilyn Rose Parkes. He is survived by his wife Rose K. Hoffmann, six children, 22 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Leon Hoffmann (Karen), Bountiful, UT; and Dale Hoffmann (Edith) Fortuna, CA.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. in the Randolph LDS Chapel. Friends may call at the Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston, Wyoming Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the chapel in Randolph Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service.

Burial in the Randolph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National MS Society, Utah State Chapter, 6365 S. Highland Dr., Salt Lake City UT 84121 or www.curemsutah.org
