1300 East now safer

0 Comments | Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Jun 25, 2009

Thanks to the help of many caring citizens and commitment from the Salt Lake City Council, 1300 East is now a bit safer for pedestrian traffic. Several sets of manually operated flashing yellow pedestrian crossing lights, recently installed by the city, will help bring the presence of vulnerable pedestrians to the attention of busy motorists and greatly improve their odds of a safe crossing.

Two and one-half years ago a 7-year-old girl was struck and nearly killed by a car that failed to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk at Yale Avenue and 1300 East. This incident, along with the previous death of a teenage boy and countless other traffic- related accidents, warranted a significant change.

Change has come. Please slow down and yield to pedestrians when you see the flashing yellow crossing lights. Thanks, Salt Lake City.
