Pastel artist Karen Watson, left, and Liz Buceta of Hood River, Ore., fix the matting on Watson's piece "Blue Meadow" as they set up a display for the Utah Arts Festival at Library Square in Salt Lake City on Wednesday. Left, faces adorn hand-carved broomsticks by Thurman Scheumack of Eugene, Ore., displayed the day before the opening of the Utah Arts Festival.

Weather for the festival is expected to be in the 80s and 90s, except on Friday when a storm is expected to hit. Salt Lake City has seen 16 days of recordable precipitation this month. A storm Friday would tie the record, which was set in 1967. The 33rd annual arts festival will open today at noon and runs through Sunday.
