Bohemia-based vitamin maker NBTY Inc. to buy Dutch chain

Vitamin maker NBTY Inc. (Nasdaq: NBTY) Dec. 11 said it signed a letter of intent to buy the De Tuinen chain of stores in the Netherlands for about $16.6 million.

NBTY said the transaction for the 65-store chain should be finalized in the first quarter of 2003.

De Tuinen, which means "the garden" in Dutch, consists of 44 company-owned and 21 franchise stores that sell dietary supplements, gifts and natural beauty care items in the Netherlands.
