The Independent Group Home Living Program received a $100,000 donation from the United Parcel Service Foundation, the charitable arm of the United Parcel Service in Farmingdale.
The funds will benefit Angela's House, an East Moriches group residence in the IGHL organization that assists medically frail children.
$10,000 secured for NAAR
State Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. secured $10,000 in state funding for the Long Island Chapter of the National Alliance for Autism Research.
NAAR is dedicated to funding and accelerating biomedical research focusing on autism spectrum disorders.

Islanders score with two fundraisers
The New York Islanders are hosting a Winter Skating Festival at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Hempstead Dec. 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Fans will get a chance to skate on the ice, get player autographs, take tours of the Islanders' locker room, take photos on the Zamboni and participate in various activities.
The event will benefit the Sunrise Fund, which supports pediatric oncology programs at Stony Brook University Hospital.
The price for the festival is $20 per person, which includes a 90- minute skating session (bring your own skates).

Additionally, the Islanders recently raised $6,000 for breast cancer organizations including Breast Cancer Help in West Islip.
The funds were raised during the Islanders' recent "Breast Cancer Awareness Night" at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

NMFD hosts blood drive
To help replenish low supplies at local blood banks, the North Massapequa Fire Department is hosting a blood drive Jan. 17 at the fire department headquarters (Broadway and Albany Avenue) from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
To qualify as a blood donor, a person must be between the ages of 17 and 75 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days.
The fire department will provide refreshments for everyone who attends the blood drive.

Fashion raises funds for Mather Hospital
Mather Hospital Thrift Shop Fashion Show recently raised $3,500 for Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson.
The show included entertainment by the Thrift Shop Three and Mikki Shea and volunteers from Mather who modeled items of clothing.
The thrift shop raises money to support programs and services at Mather Hospital, a not-for-profit hospital.

East End Charity Council formed
Have a Heart Community Trust, an East End philanthropic organization in Southampton, initiated a series of meetings to create The East End Charity Council.
Have a Heart Community Trust provides financial and in-kind support to a variety of non-profit initiatives benefiting East End residents, including day care centers, food pantries, clothing and school supply drives, neonatal clinics and counseling services.

KIC's card recycling program
Keep Islip Clean is holding its 10th annual Holiday and Greeting Card Recycling Program, which is sponsored by KeySpan Energy.
In an effort to reduce waste and help the environment, KIC is collecting the covers only of any type of used greeting cards and sending them to St. Jude's Ranch for Children, a nonprofit, non- sectarian mission in Boulder City, Nev.
Last year's program brought in 250,000 cards, which removed thousands of pounds from Islip's waste stream.
Cards will be accepted from Jan. 2 through Feb. 1 at the KIC office at 660 Main Street in Islip between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
When dropping cards off, the total number of cards should be indicated on the package. Do not include cards with writing on the inside cover.

Performance benefits JCC
The Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center, in conjunction with the Cultural Arts Playhouse, will present a special matinee performance of the musical "Annie" at the Cultural Arts Playhouse in Old Bethpage on Jan. 5 at 11 a.m.
The performance will benefit Mid-Island Y JCC in Plainview.
Advance tickets are $8 for JCC members and $11 for non-members; there is a $1 discount for students and seniors. Add $2 per ticket if you purchase at the door.

Santa breakfast supports tots
Guests at 34 Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants on Long Island and New Jersey raised $150,000 for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation at Applebee's annual "Breakfast with Santa".
The cost of the breakfast was $10 per person with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
Volunteer at LICC
Long Island Crisis Center is seeking applicants for its upcoming January Counselor Assistant Training Program.
Training is free and takes place over three evenings.
LICC's next training sessions will be held on Jan. 8, Jan. 15 and Jan. 22 at LICC's offices in Bellmore.
