Cablevision's Voom to carry movie channel STARZ HD

Long Island Business News, Jan 2, 2004 by Ken Schachter

Padding its lineup of high-definition programming, the Voom satellite service division of Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) has agreed to carry movie channel STARZ HD.

The newly launched Voom service is entering a satellite television field dominated by News Corp.'s DirecTV and Echostar's Dish Network. Rainbow DBS, the Cablevision unit that markets Voom, is expected to be spun off by its corporate parent in 2004.

Voom, the first satellite operator to offer STARZ HD, is seeking to differentiate its service by emphasizing high-definition programming.

The premium channel will cost $14.90 per month.

By February 2004, the company said, Voom will offer 39 high- definition channels.
