Dawson on board at Melville-based Fala Direct Marketing

Melville-based Fala Direct Marketing Inc. has named Terrence Dawson chief operating officer.

Previously, he served as vice president and general manager of FalaDM's sorting and international mailing operations. He was also vice president of sales for Complete Mailing Services in Brooklyn. When reflecting on the business philosophy that has had the most influence on his successful career, Dawson said it boils down to knowing your role in the company.

You've got to be a leader, Dawson said. If you're not a leader, you've got to know how to follow your immediate supervisor and be an incredible asset to them.

If you can't be either of the two, then you're an obstructionist. Obstructionists are always part of the problem and not the solution. They're a thorn in the side of any company's vision and their tenures are usually short wherever they work, Dawson added.

Dawson is involved in a number of Long Island nonprofit groups.

He earned his bachelor's degree in education from Long Island University's C.W. Post and he resides in Seaford.
