Long Islanders receive awards and recognition: January 28, 2005

The American Heart Association of Long Island will honor Estelle Rosenthal Schlossberg on Feb. 16 for her Go Red for Women fund- raising efforts. She is founder and president of Estelle's Dressy Dresses in Farmingdale.
Three scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory have been named fellows of the American Physical Society.
Bruce B. Gibbard was recognized for implementing large-scale computing facilities for high-energy and nuclear physics. He's the director of Brookhaven's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider Computing Facility.
Alex Harris, chair of Brookhaven's chemistry department, was recognized for developing techniques to study how energy flows between a molecule and solid surfaces.
Li-Hua Yu contributed to the development of two types of lasers used in scientific research. In 2003, he won the Free Electron Laser prize at the international FEL conference.
Central Suffolk Hospital recognized Dr. Vishnu Seodat of East End Family Practice in Aquebogue as its 2005 Physician of the Year. He has been the hospital's president of the medical/dental staff, chief of medicine and medical executive.
Central Suffolk also granted Dr. Saul Rosenstreich its Physician of Distinction Award. He joined the hospital as vice president of medical affairs in 2000.
Komanoff Center for Geriatric and Rehabilitative Medicine staff member Vanessa Fernandez was named the 2004 Long Term Care Employee of Distinction by the New York State Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. She is a service worker in Komanoff's environmental services department.
Ann Marie Agostinello received a 2004 L.L. Huttleson Special Service Award from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. She is currently the director of recreation services at Jones Beach State Park.
State Sen. Owen H. Johnson was honored by the Long Island Citizens for Community Values with its certificate of excellence. Through the award, the LICCV thanks the senator for his commitment to reducing pornography.
Brian S. Conneely, a partner in Rivkin Radler's employment and labor law practice group, was named one of the Ten Leaders of Long Island, Civil Trial and Employment Law by Digital Press International. He's a prior officer of the Suffolk Academy of Law.
Carol C. Markman, president of the National Conference of CPA Practitioners, was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential Practitioners for 2005 by CPA Magazine. Markman is a partner with Syosset-based Feldman, Meinberg & Co.
Dr. Jeffrey Berger, director of Winthrop University Hospital's Clinical Ethics Program, received a Wholeness of Life award from the HealthCare Chaplaincy of New York City. Berger, a specialist in geriatric medicine, received the recognition for his dedication to the emotional and spiritual well-being of his patients.
