Garden City-based intellectual property law firm names patent agent

Long Island Business News, May 13, 2005 by Henry Powderly

Chemistry research scientist Yong Lu was named patent agent at Garden City-based intellectual property law firm Scully, Scott, Murphy & Presser.

Lu received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Shandong University in China and a master's degree in organic and bioorganic chemistry from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. He is currently pursuing a law degree and intellectual property certificate from the University of Connecticut, and will finish in 2006.

Lu worked as a scientist at the Sanxing Chemical Co. in China, at Notre Dame and in Pfizer's global research and development department. As a researcher, he designed, synthesized and characterized anti-tumor compounds and several siderophore-drug conjugates, which enable iron solubility, as antibiotic agents.

He is also a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.

At Scully Scott, Lu will help to prepare patent applications and prosecute in patent-related cases.

[Lu]'s training and expertise in organic and bio-organic chemistry will further enhance our highly regarded life sciences practice, said senior partner Paul Esatto. He'll help us deliver highly technical services to our expanding client base.
