Long Island Business News, Jul 1, 2005 by David Reich-Hale
JPMorgan Chase has placed ATMs inside every Duane Reade store, including the Manhattan-based drug store's 13 Long Island shops.
The 216 Duane Reade ATMs nearly double Chase's New York area network, which will reach 515 ATMs once they're all up and running.
Our customers can now find us at some of New York's busiest places such as Penn Station, Port Authority and Times Square, said Charlie Scharf, chief executive of retail financial services at Chase, the consumer brand of JPMorgan Chase.
Chase isn't the first bank to expand its ATM network in this manner. For example, New York Community Bank often places branches inside of supermarkets, including Pathmark. And though Bethpage Federal Credit Union doesn't have a large branch network, it's placed ATMs in King Kullen supermarkets, which gives it a much larger presence.
A Chase spokesman said that other deals like the one with Duane Reade are possible, though nothing has set in stone.
