Long Island Business News, Nov 7, 2005 by Ken Schachter

Computer Associates International has spun off its Ingres open- source database unit and transferred majority ownership to a private equity firm, the company announced Monday. Though CA (NYSE: CA) maintains a stake in the new Ingres Corp., Menlo Park, Calif.-based Garnett & Helfrich Capital becomes the majority stakeholder.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The move will let Ingres focus on the open-source market, while CA concentrates its primary markets, a news release said. CA acquired the Ingres technology when it acquired the ASK Group in 1994.
