Molloy College has presented its St. Martin de Porres Award to Dr. Sheila D'Nodal.
D'Nodal, vice president of ambulatory services at South Nassau Communities Hospital, was honored for her ongoing efforts to establish community-based partnerships and programs designed to provide health information and education to Long Island's culturally diverse communities.
"I am not alone in my efforts, as South Nassau's administration and staff work side-by-side with me to increase awareness of the cultural issues and differences affecting the communities we serve, and develop the solutions that will eliminate the barriers these issues create," D'Nodal said in a release.
She is the founder and coordinator of South Nassau's Cultural Initiatives Committee, which addresses the challenges of delivering health-care services to multicultural workforce and patient populations and develops strategies and programs to eliminate cultural barriers hindering the delivery of health care to patients of all cultures.

She is also a member of the board of directors at the Hispanic Counseling Center, co-chairwoman of the subcommittee on Health Promotion/ Disease Prevention for Nassau County's Minority Health Task Force and medical adviser to the Latina Community Board of the American Cancer Society.
Born of immigrant parents, D'Nodal earned her bachelor's degree in biology from the City College of New York and her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.
