ACCOUNTING
Steven Wolpow, a Dix Hills resident, and Barry Berg, a Commack resident, have become co-managing partners of the new accounting firm Nussbaum Yates Berg Klein & Wolpow. The firm was formed by the merger of two older firms, Nussbaum, Yates & Wolpow and Berg Klein Salomon.
BANKING
East Northport resident Gerard Schmitt has joined Bethpage Federal Credit Union as vice presidents of marketing. Schmitt will be in charge of developing key communications and oversee daily the marketing materials and adverting campaigns branding the credit union and its products and services.
CATERING
Roslyn resident Peter Stone has joined the Farmingdale-based catering facility Carlyle on the Green as general manager. Prior to joining Carlyle on the Green, Stone ran Philip Stone Caterers with his father.
COMMUNICATIONS
Corporate communications professional Kate O'Brien has formed O'Brien Communications, a consulting firm specializing in employee communications, marketing communications, investor relations and media relations. O'Brien's specialties are in the technology, finance, health-care and government sectors.
EDUCATION
Old Westbury-based Empire State College has selected La'Nette Cooper as its new dean. She previously served as associate dean in the School of Education and Professional Studies and Graduate Division of Eastern Connecticut State University. Cooper's responsibilities will include enrollment management, budget development, faculty evaluation and supervision of all center personnel.
Bellmore resident James H. Hunderfund was appointed superintendent of Malverne schools. Hunderfund is a former superintendent of Commack Public Schools.
HEALTH CARE
Robert W. Kosinski, chief of pediatric dental medicine at Schneider Children's Hospital, was elected as the new District I trustee officer of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Kosinski has been a member of AAPD since 1993 and has served on various organization committees and councils.
Henry H. Woo, cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgeon, has been appointed the director of the newly established Cerebrovascular Center at Stony Brook University Medical Center. Woo holds dual appointments in the university's departments of neurosurgery and radiology.
LAW
Melville-based law firm Lewis Johs Avallone Aviles has promoted firm associate Michael G. Kruzynski to partner. Kruzynski, who has been with the firm for eight years, practices commercial litigation and heads the firm's Appellate Department.
NOT-FOR-PROFIT
The Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center recently announced that Ruth L. Katz has become the center's senior program coordinator. She will oversee all senior programs and activities.
Sid Jacobson also welcomed Taylor Herbert as adult day program supervisor. Jacobson, a recent Adelphi master's program graduate, will be responsible for coordinating and supervising all adult day programs.
REAL ESTATE
William Connolly, formerly an associate of Kelly Drye & Warren of New York City, has been appointed associate general counsel of Arbor Commercial Mortgage. Connolly will be responsible for negotiating and structuring multiple lender agreements for bridge, mezzanine financing and preferred equity transactions.
Mark H. Kaplan, a former financial analyst from the Real Estate Finance Group at Credit Suisse in Manhattan, has joined Woodbury- based Kabro Associates. He will manage existing properties and develop and analyze new opportunities for the firm.
SALES
Protex International Corp. has named Larry Ford vice president of domestic sales and marketing. Ford previously served as domestic sales manager for the company's security seals division.
