Larchmont mayor: Listen to Nassau County Executive Suozzi

Long Island Business News, Jun 3, 2009 by David Reich-Hale

In an op-ed penned - or probably typed - for the Journal News, Village of Larchmont Mayor Elizabeth N. Feld came down against Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's consolidation bill, which has already coasted through the Assembly and has mass approval across the political spectrum.

Feld argues that Cuomo's legislation misses the mark because it would take away important local services while saving less money than anticipated.

She said the Village of Larchmont has already identified services that could be consolidated and made necessary changes.

Feld's comments have been backed up by other village mayors, including Patchogue's Paul Pontieri, who has an op-ed in the upcoming issue of Long Island Business News.

Finally, Feld said she supports more efficient government and chided Albany leaders for failing to implement any of the ideas put forth by the Commission on Property Tax Relief, chaired by Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi.

The commission "offered a clear analysis of what ails New York government and a blueprint for improvement. Regrettably, the governor and the Legislature have failed to act on the commission's recommendations."
