Verizon releases video game download service for subscribers
Long Island Business News, Jun 16, 2009 by Henry E Powderly II
We give you the Rhapsody of video games.
Verizon communications today released a video game download service for subscribers of either its FiOS or DSL Internet services.
The plan, which costs $9.99 a month, gives users access to 1,400 games that can be downloaded to their computers or stream them online. Games range from family and kid-friendly ones to the more advanced (and violent) titles.
The company's statement, however, doesn't say whether or not the games are Mac friendly, but since the title of the release is "Verizon Brings New York Customers Hundreds of PC Games for a Price Less Than a Single Retail Game CD" I'm guessing they are not.
Would Verizon just get over its unfriendly stance on Apple? You're getting the iPhone in a year.
From the announcement:
Among the hundreds of arcade, action, puzzle, sports, and word games are:
For families - "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader," "Jewel Quest(R)," "The Price Is Right(TM)," "Boggle(R)" and "Risk(TM)."
For kids - "Bob The Builder(TM)," "Clifford The Big Red Dog(R)," "SpongeBob(TM) Teaches Typing," "American Girl" and "Zoo Tycoon."
For Casual Gamers - "Bejeweled Twist(TM)," "Diner Dash(R)," "Agatha Christie(TM)," "Virtual Villagers(R)," "Splinter Cell(TM)" and "Prince of Persia(TM)."
The games offer is available throughout the summer and the titles can be downloaded to PCs and laptops. To order Verizon broadband and the unlimited gaming service call 1-800-VERIZON.
