Springs man held in armed robbery of bank

A Colorado Springs man was being held Wednesday in connection with a robbery Tuesday at Colorado National Bank.

A man armed with a handgun held up the bank about 9:30 Tuesday morning and fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a teal- colored, Camaro-style car, said Lt. Skip Arms, a spokesman for the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The man was not identified because he has not been charged, but police and the FBI are continuing to investigate, Arms said. He added the cash from the robbery had not been recovered.

Arms said a car has been impounded and the suspect was being detained on a parole hold, indicating he has a previous conviction. No other details were released.

Snowstorm causes minor accidents

A light snowfall covered most of Colorado Springs on Wednesday evening, putting city plows on full alert and police on cold reporting.

Weather forecasters said they hadn't received calls of any significant amount of snow locally by late Wednesday. The heaviest snowfall occurred from 5 to 6 p.m., forecasters from the National Weather Service said.

Despite the light covering, there were some pileups, stranded motorists and fender-benders.

Police reported a city bus stranded in the intersection at Costilla Street and Wahsatch Avenue late Wednesday. Motorists eastbound on Platte Avenue had trouble climbing onto Academy Boulevard, stopping traffic and causing a pileup.

And a head-on, two-car collision on Austin Bluffs Parkway just east of Union Boulevard also blocked traffic about 7:45 p.m. Victims suffered minor injuries.

Forecasters expect a low of zero to minus 5 degrees tonight.
