Rampart-Doherty duo shines in all-star game

DENVER - Rampart's Kevin Wagstaff sat in the stands at the Pepsi Center on Saturday night, pondering his next four years as he watched the Denver Nuggets-Phoenix Suns game.
To his right sat Doherty's Patrick Hannaway, also in deep thought as he watched the game.
Both were on hand to represent the white jersey team in The Show II state all-star game.
"I'm a little tired," Hannaway said. "I was in my first track meet of the season today. It was a little warm out there."
For the record, Hannaway competed in the Mullen Invitational, where he high jumped 6 feet, 4 inches, triple-jumped 42-6, and long jumped 20-1.

Hannaway then went on the Pepsi Center floor and scored 13 points, including a slam dunk late in the second half, to help the white team to a 114-102 victory.
Wagstaff stayed busy on Saturday the way he usually does - with a basketball in hand, wearing gym shorts and sneakers.
"I won the 3-point contest," said Wagstaff, who scored 17 points in the all-star game. "Made 10-of-15 in the finals. They gave me this basketball."
The Gazette's player of the year, Wagstaff, a senior, must decide in the coming days where he intends to attend college. He has been offered scholarships to Division II schools Colorado Mines (high on his list because of its tough academic standards) and Colorado- Colorado Springs. Wagstaff maintains a 3.8 GPA.
"I've talked to the Air Force Academy," Wagstaff said. "They want me to go to their prep school for a year. That might not be bad. I wouldn't lose any eligibility."
Hannaway, the 6-foot-4 swingman, has a year to make up his mind. A junior, Hannaway is being recruited by dozens of Division I programs.
"The college recruiters look at attitude and how you act on the court as much as anything," said Hannaway, who maintains a 3.7 GPA.
