JULIAN N. SANCHEZ

Julian N. Sanchez, 85, passed away in Colorado Springs, CO., on December 15, 2002. He was a long time resident of Black Forest. Julian was born on February 5, 1917 in Pueblo, CO., to Louis and Trinida (Archuleta) Sanchez. His father preceded him in death. His mother and stepfather, Trinida and Manuel Reyes, raised him. They also preceded him in death.

Julian was employed as a maintenance worker, and he was a long time member of the Labor Union. He worked for Clifton Precision and Vicon.

Julian is survived by his wife, Catherine (Patron) Sanchez; five sons, Jerry, Bennie, Ernie, Gene and Henry Sanchez; four daughters, Agnes Gutierrez, Charlotte Valdez, Anna Healey, and Cristal Sanchez; 39 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren also survive him. One son, Eddie Sanchez, preceded Julian in death. Julian was also preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice Orneleas, Rosie Cisneros and Dora Reyes; and four brothers, Joe, Albert, Louie and Robert Sanchez.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2002 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Swan Law Funeral Directors. Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m., at Swan Law Cascade Chapel, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. Mass will be on Friday, December 20, 2002 at 10:00 a.m., at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1520 East Yampa, Colorado Springs. Burial will be immediately following at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs. A reception will follow the burial at Senor Manuel Restaurant, 4660 North Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs.

PHYLLIS JOAN KWIATKOWSKI

Phyllis Joan Kwiatkowski, age 70, a homemaker and Colorado Springs resident, died December 16, 2002. She was born December 9, 1932.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Edwin; her mother, Irene Stageberg; brother, Warren Barstad; seven daughters, Denise Williamson, Mary Swartz, Cheryl Reed, Michelle Bills, Laura Kwiatkowski, Libby Wunderlich and Karyn Fast. 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2002, at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church, 11020 Teachout Road, Black Forest, CO., 80908.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 19, 2002, at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard. A Rosary Service will follow at 7:00 p.m., in the Chapel. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.

WAYNE C. HODSON

Wayne C. Hodson, 81, died peacefully at his home in Lake Havasu City, AZ., on Thursday, December 12, 2002 with his loving wife of 60 years, Jean, by his side. He was born in Red Oak, Iowa on May 30, 1921 to William Guy and Sarah Michelle Hodson.

Wayne was raised in Red Oak, Iowa and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1938. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Navy from 1940-1945. After the war, he graduated from the University of Wyoming Law School in 1951, and started practicing law in the state of Wyoming. He then moved to Colorado Springs, CO., where practiced law for 30 years.

Wayne, together with his wife Jean, was a rancher, who owned and operated Lazy H Guest Ranch in Estes Park, CO., while developing parcels of land around the Colorado Springs area. He was privileged to leave the land better than he found it. Wayne was also active in breeding and racing thoroughbred horses in Colorado and Illinois. His family will miss his humor, warmth and support.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean M. (Benjamin) Hodson; daughters: Valerie Floyd and her husband Mike, and Susan Hodson, all of Lake Havasu City, AZ; son, Eric Hodson and his wife, Janice of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Zane Floyd, Cole Hodson and Baylor Hodson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Sarah Hodson; sister, Orpha Hodson; grandsons Clayton Hodson and Francisco Cobis.

No services are planned, and interment will be in Red Oak, Iowa at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wayne's name to Hospice of Havasu.

BILLY CROWDER, LCDR, USN, RET.

Billy Crowder, LCDR, USN, Ret., will be memorialized in a Service at the U.S. Air Force Academy Community Chapel on Friday, January 3, 2003, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Billy's name, may be made to an organization that most touches the donor's heart, would be appreciated.

JOHN L GRIFFIS

John L Griffis, age 81, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2002 at the Pikes Peak Hospice Residence in Colorado Springs. John had been a Colorado Springs resident since 1949, and previously lived in Modesto, CA., and Elmore City, OK. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother.

John L Griffis was born in 1921 in Garvin County, OK., to Arthur W. and Etta M. (Roberson) Griffis, who are now deceased. He married F. Elizabeth Northcott on July 29, 1950 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. Elizabeth preceded John in death in 1999.

John had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from the University of Denver in 1947, and then worked as a partner with the Kingsolver, White, Griffis & Johnson CPAs before moving on to an independent Certified Public Accountant practice. John was a member of the Colorado Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, and the First Presbyterian Church.
