BOUNDARIES: Located at the north end of El Paso County, encompassing the towns of Monument and Palmer Lake.

THIS SCHOOL YEAR: Board of education's focus this year will be the future of Lewis-Palmer High School: Can increased growth best be handled by expanding facilities at the current location, or is a second high school site needed?

APPROVED CLASS SIZE: Approximately 25 students per class.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE SPEAKERS: Contact Maryann Wiggs, executive director of curriculum and instruction, 488-4700, to learn about services for non-native English speakers.

CHOICE PROCESS: For students who want to attend a school other than the neighborhood school assigned to them, or for out-of- district students, admission is based upon space availability. For information, contact the principal of the appropriate school.

TRANSPORTATION POLICY: Eligibility for busing is determined by the distance students live from school, safe pedestrian walkways and/or other safety concerns as determined by the director of transportation. Transportation boundaries are approximately half- mile walking distance for elementary school students and approximately one-mile walking distance for middle and high school students. There are exceptions. For information, contact the transportation department, 488-4711.

SPECIAL-NEEDS STUDENTS: Parents of students with special emotional, mental or physical needs can contact Linda Williams- Blackwell, director of special education, or Ted Belteau, executive director of student services, to learn about available services. Reach both at 488-4700.

BREAKFAST/LUNCH PROGRAM: Lunch prices are $1.60 for elementary elementary students and $1.85 for middle and high school students. Breakfast is served at the high school for $1.25. Families who meet income guidelines may qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. Information about the lunch program is sent home with students the first day of school. Contact Donna Link, food services supervisor, 488-4726, for information.

DAY CARE: Day care is provided by the Monument YMCA in all elementary schools. Contact the YMCA, 481-8728, about costs, times and programs offered. Financial assistance is available.

REGISTRATION: New students register at the district office 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students should bring a Social Security number, immunization record and mailing address of previous school. New kindergartners also must bring their birth certificate. The entrance age for kindergarten is 5 by Sept. 15. Parents will be asked to sign a residency statement to verify the child lives in the district. They may be asked to provide a copy of their home purchase contract or rental lease agreement.

ATHLETICS INFORMATION: Contact the high school or middle schools directly. The school secretary will refer your call to the appropriate person.
