Mr. Spence is survived by his loving wife, Gertrud; his daughter, Lisa of Houston, TX; his son Frank, daughter-in-law Mary; and grandchildren Christopher and Katie, all of Burke, VA; a sister, Leona of Ronceverte, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by countless friends, neighbors and acquaintances.
A rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m., on Tuesday Sept. 9, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Josephs Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona, 80906, or Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak, 80903.

Dr. June Elizabeth Crabtree was born on June 20, 1927 in Inglewood, CA, to Lyle and Eva Lord. She passed from this life at home on September 6, 2003
She attended elementary and high school in Inglewood, and in 1945 entered the University of California at Santa Barbara where she received a BA degree in music education and liberal arts.
Upon graduation from Santa Barbara she married E. Richard Crabtree, a fellow graduate of Inglewood High in the class of 1945. The moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she taught elementary school music and lead a highs school vocal music program in Colerain School District.
She received a Master's degree from Miami University at Oxford, Ohio. In 1960, she moved into elementary education and was later appointed Supervisor of Elementary Education for the school district.
The Crabtrees moved to Canton, Ohio, in 1969, when her husband, Dr. E. Richard Crabtree, became the Senior Minister of First Christian Church. June accepted a position with the Plain Local School District as Coordinator of Elementary Education and later served as Principal of Edgefield Elementary School.
She retired from teaching after 33 years and then earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education from the University of Akron, teaching there until the family moved to Colorado Springs.
Dr. June Crabtree published two books on Christian education and also wrote numerous articles for educational journals and religious education publications.
In their 54 years of marriage, June was always deeply involved in the ministries of her husband. Often she led the church choirs as well as the children's education programs.
June Crabtree was preceded in death by her brother Donald Lord. She is survived by her husband, E. Richard Crabtree; a son, Steven R. Crabtree; a sister-in-law, Lois, in California; and a niece and a nephew.
A memorial service for Dr. Crabtree will be held at Academy Christian Church, 1635 Old Ranch Rd, on Wednesday, September 10, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to South Pacific Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 62911, Colorado Springs, CO 80962.
VERA JAMES
Vera James, a Colorado Springs resident, died September 4, 2003 after a long illness. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. James was born October 12, 1913, in Galesburg, IL, to Clifford and Francis Hall, who are deceased. She was married in 1942 to Dr. William James, who is deceased. She is survived by a son, Roger James, who resides in Illinois; a daughter, Cindy James, who resides locally; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
