Craig Mayher has advanced to the highest rank of the Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout. The award was presented to him by Troop 68 of the Pikes Peak Council

Mayher, a Palmer High School senior, is the son of John and Susan Mayher of Colorado Springs.

Amber Carrico, 15, of Colorado Springs has been selected to represent Colorado as Miss Colorado Jr. Teen at the 2003 National Miss American Junior Teen Pageant to be held at the Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort.

Carrico is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carrico of Colorado Springs.

Richelle Soat, 11, of Colorado Springs has been selected to represent Colorado at the 2003 Miss American Preteen Pageant to be held at the Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort.

Soat is the daughter of Richard and Cheryl Soat of Colorado Springs.

The Colorado Springs Chapter of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association donated 33 teddy bears to TESSA, a domestic violence prevention agency, on Sept. 9. Their goal was 30 bears and they exceeded that goal to give a child a new friend when being faced with drastic change in their lives.

The local chapter plans to make the teddy bear drive an annual summer event.

The Space Foundation was chosen to receive the Air Force Association's national Special Citation award. AFA National President, Pat Condon, presented the award to Elliot Pulham, Space Foundation president and chief executive officer.

The Space Foundation was recognized for its outstanding service as the leading nonprofit organization advancing the exploration, development and use of space and space education, and also for continuing to expand beyond their original visionary leaders' outreach to America's developing space community and serving the 21st century space professionals and general public.

Buddy Newton has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars. The society invites only students who have superior academic achievement and are among the top scholars in the nation.

Newton, a senior at Widefield High School, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Newton of Fort Carson.
