Broncos will induct Davis in Ring of Fame

Running back Terrell Davis' career was one of the greatest in Denver Broncos history, and the team gave him its highest honor Friday.

Davis was voted to the Broncos Ring of Fame at Invesco Field at Mile High, the team announced. Davis will be honored at halftime of Denver's Sept. 23 game against Jacksonville, which coincides with the team's alumni reunion weekend. Davis played from 1995 to 2001. He holds 12 Broncos records, including rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. Davis was named Super Bowl XXXII MVP, and won the NFL MVP award in 1998 after rushing for 2,008 yards.

Davis said owner Pat Bowlen called him Friday to inform him.

"I was like 'This is all right,'" Davis said. "I'm excited. It's like a confirmation of what your career meant to the city of Denver and the organization."

Davis lives in San Diego and is an analyst on NFL Network. He retired because of knee problems after spending the 2002 season on injured reserve.

Davis was voted into the Ring of Fame by a four-person panel of Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, former general manager John Beake, former defensive coordinator Joe Collier and former play-byplay announcer Larry Zimmer. Davis is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and was one of 25 semifinalists for this year's class.

Lombardi hired

The Broncos hired Mike Lombardi, who was in the Oakland Raiders' front office the past eight years, to the position of personnel assistant. Last year Lombardi held the position of senior personnel executive.

Rookie update

Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist said talks with the agents for defensive ends Jarvis Moss and Tim Crowder, the team's unsigned draft picks, continued. The first training camp practice is Sunday morning.

"I don't anticipate anyone not being in on time," Sundquist said.

Moss was a first-round pick and Crowder was a second-round pick.

Denver's other two draft picks, offensive tackle Ryan Harris and defensive tackle Marcus Thomas, are signed.
