Car and plane show in Denver

Tickets are available now for the Morgan Adams Concours d'Elegance at Centennial Airport in Denver on Aug. 25.

This year's event will feature more than 140 cars and planes from the early 1900s through today.

Among the award-winning aircraft you'll see: the "Silver Shadow," a 1960 Beech Super G-18. Beech first premiered the Super G-18 in 1937, and until the P-51 Mustang Boeing 737, it had the highest production rate of any airplane. It was used to train 90 percent of American bombers in World War II.

And then there are the automobiles. This year's Concours d'Elegance will feature a number of race- and award-winning vehicles, including a vintage 1966 Ferrari 275GTB, considered by many collectors to be the most beautiful design ever created for Ferrari.

In addition to the phenomenal and rare "wheels and wings" on display, the Concours also features a live auction with exotic travel destinations and tours, as well as cuisine from

some of Denver's finest restaurants, Tamayo and Strings among them.

Festivities run 6 to 10 p.m.

at XJet at Centennial Airport,

8173 S. Interport Blvd. Don't be

late for the fly-bys at 6:45 p.m. Free

parking and valet parking are available.

The Morgan Adams Foundation hopes to raise more than $250,000 at the event, which will fund children's cancer research. Tickets cost $100, available at www.morganadams foundation.org, or by calling 1- 303-758-2130.

Salida hosts trail riding clinic

Saddle up and head to Salida this Saturday for a competitive trail riding clinic, sanctioned by the North American Trail Ride Conference (NATRC).

Clinician Judi Tobias will present all kinds of information about NATRC and what is involved and expected of participants in competitive trail riding. After that, take a mock trail ride between Salida and Buena Vista, complete with trail judges and a variety of obstacles to test your attention to the earlier instruction.

Upon returning to "base camp," you'll feast on a barbecue lunch. Then enjoy a short program by the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service and a critique of the morning ride. You might be a lucky ticket holder for one of the door prize drawings.

Tobias is a NATRC judge and rider, who says, "Competitive trail riding is a great way for people to see beautiful country with their horses and is a good family sport and a great use of our public open spaces."

The clinic is sponsored by the Buffalo Peaks Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of America, and proceeds benefit that organization.

The $65 entry fee includes instruction, trail ride, lunch, several handouts and overnight camping. Stalls are available for those requiring the convenience. Register and get directions at www.BPBCH.homestead.com, or contact Kathleen Mussetter at 1-719-836- 2422 or mussetter@southparkco.com.
