Gluten-free event

Hit Denver April 5-6 for the 2008 Gluten-Free Baking Invitational at Johnson & Wales University, 7150 Montview Blvd.

Local and national speakers will discuss gluten-free treats, and the audience will get a chance to ask questions. There will also be cooking demonstrations, and Johnson & Wales students will compete for scholarships with signature gluten-free recipes.

Cost for one day is $149; two days is $279. Visit theglutenfreelifestyle.com or call 1-303-368-9990 for a schedule and to register.

Winning students

Coronado High School students Emily Grantz, Megan Jeffrey, Judy Santero and Jordon Sveen will represent Colorado at a national culinary event after winning a gold medal for their management skills at the ProStart Student Invitational in Denver earlier this month.

The Management Team competed against 14 high school teams in two events: a case study, testing them on practical situations in the restaurant or hotel business, and a quiz bowl, a "Jeopardy!"-style questionand-answer event.

The team will advance to the National ProStart Invitational competition in San Diego in April. Pro-Start trains students interested in restaurant and hospitality industry careers.

Veggie card

The Colorado Steak Company All Natural Meat and Fish Market, 1645 Briargate Parkway, is making it easier for people to get their veggies with its Organic Produce Club. Each Monday night, place an order for produce from a menu. On Saturday, drop by the store to pick up your order. There's an annual fee of $50, plus the cost of the veggies you order. Visit www.costeak.com to join and place orders or call 599-0077.
