Fire crews had a 4-acre blaze near the Broadmoor Bluffs area about out at 5 p.m., the Colorado Springs Fire Department said.

The blaze was reported at 12:26 p.m. north of Norad Road and just south of the Broadmoor Bluffs neighborhood in southwest Colorado Springs.

Flames were burning in light grasses and scrub oaks, and despite the windy conditions, the fire was not considered erratic, said fire Lt. Jesse Kruckeberg, a department spokesman. The fire came within 300 yards of homes.

A single-engine air tanker was called in to drop fire retardant. Temporarily, much of the Broadmoor Bluffs area was closed or on restricted access to allow for the free movement of Fire Department vehicles.
