Many service plates drive Colo. roads
0 Comments | Gazette, The (Colorado Springs), Aug 10, 2008 | by LINDA NAVARRO
I saw a Colorado Medal of Honor license plate in Colorado Springs last weekend. I was wondering how many Medal of Honor plates have been issued?
While on the subject, how many Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star and other military service plates have been issued in Colorado?
Larry Marty
There are nine vehicles and/or motorcycles with current Colorado Medal of Honor plates.
The Colorado Department of Revenue also has these numbers for plates registered as of June 30.
Bronze Star, 645
Bronze Star Valor, 97
Distinguished Service
Cross, 2
Air Force Cross, 3
Navy Cross, 6
Purple Heart, 3,971

WHERE WAS THE EMPORIUM?
A friend of mine and I are
trying to figure out exactly where the old Emporium bar and restaurant was located. We know that it was on Tejon between Bijou and Kiowa on the west side of the street. We can't remember if it was north or south of the Old Chicago building. Would you have a way to find out the address so we can settle this question?
Bubba Snyder
You guys were so close.
It wasn't north or south of the Old Chicago building. It WAS the Old Chicago building, 118 N. Tejon St.
We also found this fun remember-when item in the files, looking at Colorado
Springs during the 1980s:
"Nightlife: Disco mania:
Disco survived the late
'70s and lingered through the early '80s. Local clubs: DJ's, Crackers Attic, Ryan's, Sunny's, the Atlantis, Reuben's, Steamers, Shuffles, Weston Electric,
Fast Eddie's, The Emporium Ltd. and Bell's Nightingale.
Popular dances: the Hustle, the Tango Hustle, the Bump,
the Freak, the Rock and
ballroom dancing."
