The Center for Nonprofit Resources says 72% of graduates from the organization's Boards Work! program continue to volunteer with local nonprofits up to 20 hours per month. Boards Work! is a six-week course on subjects such as fund-raising, financial management and strategic planning. Graduates are placed on the board of a Greater New Orleans area nonprofit for one year.

Hibernia National Bank has been presented with the United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area's 2002 Chairman Award. The award was given in recognition of Hibernia's United Way campaign, which raised nearly $789,000 - a 10.6% increase of $76,207 over last year's campaign. More than 1,700 Hibernia employees (about 74% of the bank's employees) contributed an average gift of $229.50 to the 2002 campaign.

The New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity will open its new Habitat ReStore to the public on July 26. The store at 2830 Royal St. in the Faubourg Marigny will sell used building materials, furniture and home goods at 30% to 90% below retail costs. Income from the store will be used to help Habitat for Humanity build affordable housing for low-income families.
