Neal Auction House of New Orleans to auction rare Thomas Day table
New Orleans CityBusiness, Dec 1, 2003 by Staff
Neal Auction House of New Orleans will hold one of its top three auctions of 2003 this Saturday, said Rachel Weathers, consignments administrator. Items for bid include those from the old Georgia governor's mansion and the Calhoun mansion in Charleston, S.C., and from the estate of New Orleans stamp collector Raymond Weill.
The top bid could be for a cherrywood pier table attributed to 19th century furniture maker Thomas Day, a free man of color working in Milton, N.C. Day is known for mixing classical elements and African motifs. The table is estimated to be worth $9,000 to $12,000, Weathers said.
