New Orleans CityBusiness, Aug 9, 2004 by Staff

New Orleans native Dawn Marie Harvey bought a $100 raffle ticket and walked away with a newly-built $250,000 house.

The grand prize was part of the first St. Jude Dream Home giveaway in New Orleans.

For a cost of $100 per ticket, 7,500 people participated in the contest, raising more than $752,000 for research and treatment at St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. St. Jude's, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, is one of the world's leading pediatric cancer research centers.

Harvey's new home is in Harvey and was built by Willow Inc., a residential construction firm in Harvey. Other prizes donated by local businesses included a Kawasaki four-wheeler and a diamond necklace.
