The American Civil Liberties Union filed a motion for criminal contempt Wednesday against the Tangipahoa Parish School Board for violating a court order banning prayer at athletic events. It's the second contempt motion filed against the School Board since mid- March for violating court orders.

The latest alleged violation came when an adult identified as Shane Tycer used the public address system to deliver a prayer before the start of a March 24 basketball game between Loranger High School and Sumner High School. The School Board acknowledged a prayer was said before the game but claimed no responsibility since Tycer is not a school employee.

The ACLU alleges school officials made no attempt to stop Tycer and says the School Board's behavior is part of a pattern of disobeying the law in order to promote Christianity over other religions in public schools.
