Base Realignment and Closure Commission to come to New Orleans in

New Orleans CityBusiness, Jun 6, 2005 by Staff

The Base Realignment and Closure Commission is coming June 17 to New Orleans. The city will also be the site of a July 12 regional BRAC Commission hearing at the D-Day Museum in the Warehouse District.

The BRAC Commission, which has the power to take military bases off a closure list or keep them on, will tour the Naval Support Activity base in Algiers and Bywater. The tour is a final opportunity for city officials to make the case that the base, which employs about 4,600 people, should remain open.

The commission will report its recommendations to President Bush by Sept. 8.
