New Orleans Publishing Group nets 14 awards from N.O. Press Club

New Orleans Publishing Group won 14 awards from the Press Club of New Orleans, including one first-place award for New Orleans CityBusiness and four first-place awards for New Orleans CityLife.

The Press Club's 47th annual awards banquet took place June 18 at the Astor Crowne Plaza.

CityBusiness News Editor Autumn C. Giusti won first place in the headlines category for her entry, Carnival caters to carnivores before Lent's meatless days.

CityLife first-place honorees included Art Director Lisa Finnan in layout and design for New Orleans Noisemakers and Denise Trowbridge in the investigative category for the cost-of-living report Reading Between the Parish Lines. CityLife photographer Benjamin Bullins also won first place for his single-feature photo Spy Guys and sports feature photo Hoop Dreams.

Second-place awards went to:

* Bullins, in the multifeature photo category for Homeward Bound in CityLife;

* CityLife photographer David Rae Morris, single feature photo for Finding the Beat; and

* Trowbridge, environmental story for Where Does Your Recycling Go? in CityLife.

Third-place awards went to:

* CityBusiness photographer Cheryl Gerber, multifeature photo for her Hurricane Ivan Terrible Traces coverage;

* CityBusiness Staff Writer Deon Roberts, environmental story on New Orleans area brownfields;

* Trowbridge, sports feature Purple Magic and special interest story Fighting for Care in CityLife; and

* CityBusiness Staff Writer Richard A. Webster, investigative story for his New Orleans voter woes story.

Webster also received honorable mention for his feature The Long, Winding Road in CityLife.
