Dorignac's Food Center in Metairie experiences 'mad dash' before

New Orleans CityBusiness, Sep 23, 2005 by CityBusiness Staff Report

Dorignac's Food Center, on Veterans Boulevard in Metairie closed at noon today until further notice due to Hurricane Rita, after reopening Wednesday.

Mike Marchand, a Dorignac's manager, said New Orleans residents waited in long lines to clean out the shelves of food, water, batteries and other hurricane survival items.

Most of the residents are staying and just making sure they have enough stuff through the next couple of days, Marchand said. It's been a mad dash this morning. We look like we're the only one open down here and they come in very relieved.
