Senate committee coming Tuesday to Gulfport, N.O.

Susan Collins, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee chairman, and ranking member Joseph Lieberman today announced committee members will hold a field hearing in Gulfport, Miss., at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday as part of the committee investigation into the preparation for and response to Hurricane Katrina.Attendees will include Donald Powell, coordinator for Recovery and Rebuilding in the Gulf Coast Region U.S.

Department of Homeland Security; Mayor Brent Warr of Gulfport, Mayor Edward Favre of Bay St. Louis; Gavin Smith, director of the Governor's Office of Recovery and Renewal.The public can attend this Senate hearing but will not be permitted to ask questions.At 1:15 p.m., the committee will arrive at the Lakefront airport for a bus tour of New Orleans followed by a 4:30 p.m. round table discussion with Mayor C. Ray Nagin at the Marc Morial Convention Center. It will be open to the press.
