Southeastern Louisiana University graduates 1,062 students

Southeastern Louisiana University conferred degrees on 1,062 graduates Saturday at spring commencement.

Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, the U.S. Army commander and Louisiana native who led the post-Katrina task force charged with the New Orleans and Gulf coast recovery, was the keynote speaker at the ceremony in the University Center arena.

The university presented President's Medals for Academic Excellence to 14 students with perfect 4.0 grade point averages. The medals are awarded to students with the highest cumulative grade point average in the university's five colleges and Division of General Studies. In two colleges, multiple awards were presented.
