N.O. woman sentenced for Katrina fraud
New Orleans CityBusiness, Nov 28, 2007
U.S. District Judge Jay Zainey has sentenced a New Orleans woman to five years of probation for making a false claim for Hurricane Katrina aid, U.S. Attorney Jim Letten's office said.
Roshondra Celious, 27, received the sentence Tuesday after pleading guilty to the federal felony, Letten said.
Celious was not entitled to the roughly $10,391 in disaster assistance from Federal Emergency Management Agency she requested and received after Katrina, because she falsely claimed to live at 3317 Leonidas St. in New Orleans at the time the hurricane struck, according to the charges, Letten said.
Her sentence includes five months of home detention, 100 hours of community service and a requirement that she pay FEMA $10,391.
