Feds provide $5.3M for Plaquemines Parish wetlands restoration
New Orleans CityBusiness, Apr 30, 2008
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a more than $5.3 million grant for a Plaquemines Parish wetlands restoration project.
The grant, part of the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act, is for the Pass Chaland to Grand Bayou Pass Barrier Shoreline Restoration Project.
"This federal funding will help with the construction of a beach and marsh platform near Bay Joe Wise in Plaquemines Parish," said Sen. David Vitter, R-Metairie. "Coastal restoration and preservation are critical to sustaining our valuable coast line and protecting us from future storm surge."
Vitter is a member of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, which has oversight over NOAA, and a member of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.
