Assistance available for workers expected to be laid off by Harahan
New Orleans CityBusiness, May 23, 2008
The 83 workers who will lose their jobs when shirt manufacturer Kenneth Gordon closes its Harahan facility on June 8 are eligible for retraining and re-employment services because the plant's closure is the result of increased imports, the Louisiana Department of Labor said today.
The U.S. Department of Labor approved a petition requesting Trade Adjustment Assistance, a program that provides services to workers who lose their jobs or whose hours or work and wages are reduced because of international competition.
The affected workers can attend a TAA orientation session at 8:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Thursday or at 9 a.m. May 30 at the Kenneth Gordon facility, 1209 Distributor's Row.
