The Coast Guard has awarded a $21.5 million contract to build its Sector New Orleans facility.
IKBI Incorp. of Choctaw, Miss., will oversee construction of the three-story, 46,000-square-foot building on a 7-acre site in the northwest corner of property adjacent to Naval Support Activity in Algiers.
The property was transferred to the Coast Guard by an agreement reached with the Navy, the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission, Federal City and the New Orleans Federal Alliance.
The contract includes designing and constructing the facility to consolidate the sector command cadre, command center, Marine Safety Office and Vessel Traffic Service under one roof. The project includes all associated work, including site work, utilities, roadways, security and parking areas.
Construction is expected to start this summer and end in early 2010.
