Minerals Management Service to open bids for Gulf lease sale

The Minerals Management Service's Gulf of Mexico region has received 423 bids from 47 companies on 319 tracts offered for lease off the coast of Texas as part of the agency's gas lease sale No. 207 Wednesday.
Reading of the sealed bids will begin at 9 a.m. at the Royal Sonesta Hotel on Bourbon Street.
"This sale is an important next step in the journey to ensuring the nation's energy security," MMS Director Randall Luthi said in a statement. "The participation of the offshore oil and gas industry in this sale shows their commitment to the leasing, exploration and production of the nation's energy resources in the Gulf of Mexico."
