Feds award Louisiana $840,000 in emergency energy assistance

New Orleans CityBusiness, Sep 18, 2008

Mike Leavitt, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, said Louisiana will be given $840,121 in emergency energy assistance.

The funding is from the federal government's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides states, territories, tribal areas and the District of Columbia with heating assistance for the winter months.

LIHEAP funding is administered to states through the Office of Community Services in the HHS' Administration for Children and Families. The funds will assist eligible low-income households in meeting heating, insulation or cooling needs.
