FEMA obligates $7.2B to Louisiana for Hurricanes Katrina, Rita

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said it has obligated $7.2 billion to Louisiana to assist in the recovery from hurricanes Katrina and Rita, which struck more than three years ago. Of that, the state has paid $3.7 billion to parishes and state agencies as reimbursements for recovery work.
In the New Orleans area:
- Orleans Parish: $2.27 billion obligated; $894 million paid
- St. Bernard: $1.15 billion obligated; $607 million paid
- Plaquemines Parish: $500 million obligated; $136 million paid
- St. Tammany: $398 million obligated; $266 million paid
- Jefferson Parish: $347 million obligated; $197 million paid
