Brock Molden Tomah

Brock Molden, a senior forward, scored the winning goal with 10 seconds remaining as Tomah beat Somerset, 4-3, in a wild Northwest Central League hockey game last weekend. Somerset entered the game as the eighth-ranked team in the state by the High School Hockey Report. Tomah was tied for 10th. The two teams took a combined 103 shots on goal and were guilty of just one penalty. Molden scored the winning goal when he took a pass and beat a defender on a two-on-two break. The victory improved Tomah's record to 13-0, its best start in its five years as a Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association hockey program. Molden, the team's leading scorer last year, has 12 goals and 13 assists this season.

Menomonie

Basketball

Cori King, a 5-foot-8-inch senior guard, scored 25 points as Menomonie won a girls basketball game at Eau Claire Memorial for the first time in school history, dating to the start of the program in 1975-'76. Menomonie beat its Big Rivers Conference rival, 57-56, last weekend as King made 10 of 11 shots, including 5 of 5 from three-point range. She also scored the go-ahead basket with just less than 3 minutes to go. In the teams' first meeting this season, Menomonie snapped a 26-game losing streak against Memorial, going back 10 years. Going into the weekend, King had made 22 of 38 three-pointers (57.9%) and scored 154 points, a 12.8 average. She also led the team in assists and steals.

Ron Schultz

Fall Creek

Coaching

Ron Schultz of Fall Creek has become the first high school coach in Wisconsin history to win 500 games in basketball and 200 in football. Schultz won his 500th game in basketball last weekend when Fall Creek beat Cadott, 81-65. Fall Creek also won two more games last week, giving him a career record of 502-187, a .729 winning percentage. He was 6-47 during a three-year stint at New Auburn in the early 1960s. In 30 years at Fall Creek, he has a 496-140 record. His record in 31 years as football coach at Fall Creek is 202-78-4, a .718 mark. Based on unofficial state records, no more than 12 basketball coaches have won 500 games or more and no more than 12 football coaches have won 200 games or more.
