Waukesha A 17-year-old Waukesha West High School student died Wednesday after he collapsed while jogging in the school's field house, school officials said.
Brian Salminen, a junior, never regained consciousness after collapsing about 2:30 p.m., officials said.
Fire Department officials said a paramedic unit was sent to the high school and took Salminen to Waukesha Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 3:30 p.m.
School Superintendent David L. Kampschroer said the district was preparing to help grieving students in class Thursday.
"Counselors from throughout the district will be assigned to West High School to assist students and staff deal with the event," Kampschroer said.
