Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland Thursday appointed four pastors three of them black to serve the archdiocese's merged inner city parishes, and announced the parishes' new names.
Last fall, nine parishes were merged into two and given the temporary names of Parish East and Parish West. Thursday, Weakland said Parish East will become St. Martin de Porres and Parish West will become All Saints Parish.
At the same time, he appointed Fathers Marvin T. Knighton and Philip D. Reifenberg as pastor and associate pastor, respectively, of St. Martin de Porres. He also named Fathers Joseph N. Perry and MaxMary Offor as pastor and associate pastor of All Saints Parish.
Knighton and Perry are African-Americans. Offor is from Nigeria.
